THOSE WINDING PATHWAYS AT ST. ANNE’S HILL
Upon entering the prominent vicinity of St. Anne’s Hill, the beauty of the meticulously landscaped “Historic Home District” took on its own personal appeal.
How beautiful was this first day of Summer bliss, privileged was I to have along with me a very good friend so we could later reminisce.
As we approached the High Street Gallery to obtain our tour tickets and sign the register, greeted we were by the glowing faces of many volunteer ladies’ anxious to guide us to those “Winding Pathways” with much pleasure.
As in the famous “Wizard of Oz,” it felt as though we were following the inviting yet mysterious “Yellow Brick Road,” it was all we could do not to skip and laugh with childhood joy, but that would be far too bold.
The wonders of such master gardeners revealed how lovingly these home owners have cared for the gifts God has bestowed on us, immense beauty had been captured in all their work and creativity that we, too, may explore and benefit from such trust.
Fragrance from these wonderful species of plants filled our senses with pleasant, recollected gardening experiences from the past. Oh, how beautiful were the assortments of roses, hydrangeas, clematis, coreopsis, black-eyed Susans, foxglove, hollyhocks and daisies, not to mention all the geraniums, verbena, honeysuckle, petunias, begonias, lavender, daylilies, coneflowers and pansies.
It is impossible to place a name on everything we actually encountered, yet in our mind’s vision even today we know how impressive these outstanding gardens have enhanced the architectural styles allowing these members to express everlasting smiles.
Recycling and placing antique treasures amid the trees and other greenery, made many gardens come to life and added to the scenery.
Favorite items for us were the man-made ponds and the comfort of listening to active-flowing outdoor water fountains, “Artisans” have influenced the entire neighborhood with inspiring works they have created and now they are truly elated.
As the warmth of the day allowed us to stroll merrily through those “Winding Pathways,” we then knew it was time to contemplate attending the Victorian celebration of this special eventful day.
As we approached McLain Street and walked into the “Dragon House,” it was definitely overwhelming to see such scrumptious treats, enormous tables were lined with delicate and quaint pastries, many already placed on each of our plates ready for us to sample and eat.
The lady of the house and her servers were gracious and sincere, “Please help yourselves to Victorian Tea and tasty delectable desserts as we are more than willing to attend to your needs while you are here.”

Everything was beautifully decorated, it was a “Home” with tasteful personality, true friendships there developed through a helpful community that focused on individuality.
As we were kindly ushered outside to a section of small umbrella-shaded tables and sturdy chairs for relaxation, our eyes focused on the crisp, white covered linens adorned with potted herbs for everyone’s satisfaction.
Sipping our delicious tea and finishing each morsel of dessert, you see, next we accomplished an hour of conversing among other interesting visitors as we sat by the lovely and picturesque apple, peach and cherry trees. Brief as our time was for this delightful day, we rose to our feet and passed by bushes of ripened blackberries, raspberries and strawberries as we were on our way.
Yes, those “Winding Pathways” at St. Anne’s Hill, was just a way of leaving our imprints of gratitude throughout this venturous, impressive, and serene life-style so surreal.
