The
neighborhood of St. Anne's Hill is a historic community within the City of Dayton, located
one mile east of the downtown area just beyond the Oregon District. It is bounded by Route
35 on the south, Keowee Street to the west, Fourth Street on the north and McClure Street
to the east.
St. Anne's Hill is comprised of 351 housing units, approximately 65%
of which are single family, detached homes. Over 60% of the housing units are owner
occupied which is a significant increase from 1974 when the neighborhood was designated a
Historic District. Significant improvement to the housing stock and neighborhood
infrastructure, with a focus on historic preservation, has resulted in continued increases
in property values. In recent years selling prices for single family homes increased about
25% between 1992 and 1994. Since 1994 available figures suggest a 20% increase in value
has occurred with every indication that the trend will continue. Historically restored
homes have proven to be in demand and sell quickly, usually for the asking price.
The residents of St. Anne's Hill are a culturally and ethnically
diverse mix of professionals, trades people and retired individuals. A good generational
mix also exists with a population that ranges from young families to senior citizens.
Approximately 40% of the residents range in age 25 to 44, 36% are between 0 and 24, 12%
age 45 to 64 and 12% are 65 or older.
St. Anne's Hill Historic District relies on
the efforts of the volunteers in St. Anne's Hill Historic Society, its residents and the
community to insure its continued success and growth. The Society is a tax exempt,
non-profit 501c3 organization.
