Gateway Project
The St. Anne's Hill Historic District has a new ornamental wrought iron archway. The archway represents the southern
gateway to the community. The archway is about nine feet wide and nine feet tall and have the words
“ST. ANNE’S HILL” written across the top in eight-inch gold letters,
contrasting with the black structures.
The new archway is visible at the corner of McClure and Josie Streets in
"Alice’s Park" as you enter St. Anne’s Hill from the McClure Street
bridge. There is a second new archway that faces Keowee Street where
McLain Street ends at Josie Street, in the area known as “Fred’s Park.”
The archways are a result of a grant from the City of Dayton, to improve
and publicize our neighborhood. They were made and installed by Southern
Ornamental Iron Company on Salem Avenue. The St. Anne’s Hill Historic
Society was one of only 13 neighborhoods in Dayton to receive grants from
this program.
The Gateway was dedicated on September 18, 2010. The project was led by Jack Milliff, with support from the Board of Directors of the St. Anne's Hill Historic Society and the Social Committee. Special thanks to the City of Dayton, and project manager Erin Jefferies, for their assistance.
